The flywheel’s function
The flywheel, a disc-shaped part with a large moment of inertia, acts like an energy memory. For four-stroke engines, every four piston strokes work, that is, only the work stroke is used, and the exhaust, intake and compression of the three strokes consume work. When the engine speed increases, the kinetic energy of the flywheel increases, and the energy is stored; When the engine speed is reduced, the flywheel kinetic energy is reduced, releasing the energy. Flywheels can be used to reduce speed fluctuations during engine operation.
